How to Care for Hand-Embroidered Hazaragi Clothing
Wash, dry, iron and store embroidered dresses and textiles so colours and stitches stay beautiful for years.
Hand embroidery is the heart of Hazaragi dress — and the part most easily damaged by harsh washing. A few careful habits protect Graph Dozi, Sika and Qabtomar panels without turning care into a chore.
Best practice: dry clean when you can
For heavily embroidered chest panels, formal dresses, or pieces with metallic or dense thread work, professional dry cleaning is the safest option. Ask the cleaner to press from the reverse and avoid steam directly on raised stitches.
Gentle home wash
1. Turn the garment inside out. 2. Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent — never bleach. 3. Do not wring, twist or scrub embroidered areas. 4. Rinse until the water runs clear. 5. Press water out by rolling the dress in a clean towel.
Drying and sunlight
Dry flat or hang in shade. Direct sun fades natural dyes and can stiffen embroidery threads. Avoid tumble dryers entirely.
Ironing
Iron on low heat from the reverse side. Place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and any embroidery if you must press the front. Never drag a hot iron across raised stitches.
Storage
Fold with acid-free tissue (or clean cotton) between embroidered layers so threads do not catch. For long dresses, a padded hanger helps shoulders keep their shape. Keep moth protection gentle and away from direct contact with fabric.
Everyday wear tip
Perfume, deodorant and jewellery can catch or stain embroidery. Put fragrance on skin and dry fully before dressing, and be mindful of bag straps rubbing the chest panel.
Cared for this way, a handmade Hazaragi piece ages into an heirloom — not a one-season outfit.
